Day 02 — Not including food, blogging or television, what is your most guilty pleasure (this includes chocolate)…
I think my biggest non-food guilty pleasure (yes, I eat my feelings) has to be shopping. More specifically, shopping for my baby boy. Mr. Baby has some health problems, and I use that as an excuse to completely spoil the hell out of him. I'm possibly the world's cheapest human being - couponing is an art form, after all - except when it comes to him. He "needs" the best shoes, the preppiest clothes, and all the greatest toys I can find for him.
Deep down, I do realize that he needs none of these things. He'd be happy with a clean diaper and a pacifier - so why the obsession? I guess so much of my (his) life is out of my control right now, I just need to feel like I have something to offer him.
It's also something I'm good at. Finding the "best" products and the "best" deals makes me feel competent. I can do it, and I can do it well. I'm in my element at the checkout line. I've researched my purchases, I'm confident, and I know that Aidan can sense that I feel "in control."
Plus? He looks adorable clutching mommy's coupons.
The complete list of everyone participating (as far Tom Baker knows): Cherlyn Cochrane, Aurathena, TheFerkel, A Single Parent’s Life, Lovelylici1986, Prysmatique, AnonymousBurn, Caroline, Koi, Sylvia Garza, Mariana, Everything L&L, Nenskei, MyNakedBokkie, Bluefiadiarries, VeehCirra, Princesa Musang, DLonelyStar, TemptingSweets99, and LJ. Please check them out!

Aidan is so precious Caroline. I fully see where you are coming from however you are right when you said a pacifier and clean diaper (and the love from his parents) is all he really needs/wants. Spoiling your child is the right of every parent for a time being!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tom! I think the difference lies somewhere between what he NEEDS and what I "need" to give him...
ReplyDeleteAww. This is so cute and heartfelt.
ReplyDeleteJust make sure you don't spoil him too much. Kids these days need to know that all they really need is love and friendship, not expensive stuff that will eventually break or grow outdated.
I'm pretty sure that won't really be a problem with him though. :)
That's definitely a fine line that I need to keep sight of. He's such a sweet boy, I don't want to ruin him!
DeleteI thought I commented yesterday...
ReplyDeleteI think it's easy to spoil now because he doesn't expect things. Once he gets a bit older, though, and happily accepting a new fun toy becomes a tantrum at it being the wrong color it will be easier to not spoil as much.
Ha, yes, his behavior will most definitely dictate the level of spoiling that occurs.
Deleteawww he's so cute!!!
