The Big One

Our "big ultrasound" was this afternoon - 18w3d, and I was nervous as hell about doing it pre-20w.  But that's when they scheduled it, so what do I know?

As far as my unmedical eye could tell, things looked good.  Hatchy wasn't forthcoming with the spine shot, so I will have to go back in a few weeks.  Figures, since the spine is the one body part we're really nervous about, right?

We also got an allegedly "good" shot of Hatchy's parts.  So, we know what we're hatching - but I can't tell the blog until after I tell the fam - so stay tuned for the update :)

Name problems...

So, here's the problem.

I call my baby "Hatchy."  It's short for hatchling, which I use because I envision my baby being born looking something like this:

I mean, I feel like that's what the ultrasounds are indicating.  Hatchy will eventually mature, of course, looking something like this around birthday numero uno:

My worry?  Hatchy will stick.  Just for me - no one else uses it - but I literally cannot stop myself from using it.

Progress in Peanut's Room

We made some great progress in the baby's room today.

For starters - and this isn't really room-related - I found the flippin' cutest argyle onesie.  I think it's totally gender-neutral, but probably only because I'm allergic to the color pink.

 

Found a super cute growth chart.  Peanut has to be 2 feet tall to start using this.  Yes, I realize that peanut will be like 14 by the time s/he starts using it.  Shut up.  It's cute.  Looking at this picture, I'm not sure why there isn't a monkey decal between those two circle decals.  I think we forgot.  It's a busy little strip of wall.

Crib & Changer, courtesy of grandma and grandpa.  Got the leaf canopy at Ikea today, $15.  Love the monkey blanket Tom picked out at Target, $13.

Boppy can live in the crib until baby moves in.  Body-less bear that Tom picked out likes sitting on it.  Much love to our breathable bumper.

Funky Ikea mirror ($10), adorable monkey lampshade, Ikea dresser ($70).  Got some awesome drawer dividers from Ikea while we were there too.  Can't wait to start putting little socks and whatnot in there.

 

Still need to hang that blackout shade.  Also need to put up a valance.  Family crest above the window.  Papasan swing from my Craigslist haul.

Not much has changed here - recliner, shelving, cute little globe lights from 5 Below.  <3 to my monkey trashcan!

No big changes here either.

So that's Peanut's room for now.  We're exhausted.  That dresser was a BEAST to put together today.

The bottom half is catching up with the top half, which is impressive since the top half is doing its best to become a comical nightmare...

The top half doesn't look so bad in the picture, somehow, but my lovely 34Bs have morphed into ungodly 36E's that bump into things that the rest of me doesn't even come close to bumping into.  Most frequently, this is the car door. 

I'm way happier with the bottom half, which is starting to look more like there might be a person in there, and less like there are 800 McNuggets in there (and I prefer Wendy's nuggets, tyvm).

If anyone was wondering how I got pregnant so quickly, I submit the following photograph, which depicts a certain FERTILITY STATUE that my husband keeps on a bookcase a mere 5 feet from my bed.  It actually bears a striking resemblance to me these days.

The baby's room is looking really good!

We started with the superduper green walls, which made me nervous, but are really looking good now that there's some furniture in there.

We then had a blitzkrieg weekend of baby room work during which Tom put together the shelving unit, hung the curtain rod for the valance, and hung some wall shelves.  He also put up the monkey decals on that half of the room (other half will have to wait until we get the rest of the furniture).

I love the shelving unit - $99 at ikea.  I got the brown and cream fabric drawers on sale at Target and the smaller green nylon ones on sale at Big Lots.  Tom picked the owl bookends (not my favorite but he loves them) at Marshalls and the big yellow moon nightlight at Ikea.  Then hanging globe lights are from Five Below's summer luau collection, and you can't really tell, but the shelves are holding the army of Anamalz that I got for pretty cheap from a deal-a-day website shortly after I found out that I was pregnant.  We hung the Shields family crest above the window.

Not long after all of this progress, the stroller showed up.  We weren't planning to buy it until sometime in the fall, but I found a rare coupon that didn't exclude baby jogger and went for it.  Glad I did :)  Stormy is a fan...

 I LOVELOVELOVE this stroller.  Baby Jogger City Mini.  We got the infant carseat adapter and the parent console.  Ultimately, we also want to buy the child tray.  I registered for it but we obviously won't need it right away since we'll just be snapping the carseat on.

A few days after the stroller showed up, the crib came!  Again, not something we need now (obviously) but grandma wanted to buy it for us and was ready to make the purchase now, so who am I to complain?

Loving the crib.  It's LaJobi's Nursery101 line - the Morgan crib/changer combo.  Not a dropside, worry not :)  Easy to put together with only minimal husband assistance.

What's left to do?  We need to buy and assemble the dresser.  We need to find a small table to go next to the rocker.  My mother-in-law is buying the wardrobe, and we'll need to put that sucker together too.  And once that's done, we'll hang another set of monkey decals on the crib/dresser/wardrobe side of the room.  At that point, the baby's room is more or less furnished, minus little touches that I'm sure I'll be adding over the next 5 months :)
